About Waldemar

Waldemar is a beautiful summer camp and corporate retreat in the Texas Hill Country. It is rustic, private, and casual, and as such serves as an ideal location for the DSP Workshop and Signal Processing Education Workshop. Pack lightly and plan on enjoying yourself. The workshops are intended to be BOTH informative and fun. Read more on Waldemar.

Waldemar, however, is not a hotel. There is no room service or other higher-end services typically seen at hotels. To enhance the spirit of the workshop, attendees will share well-appointed cabins. Each attendee will be assigned to a cabin in accordance with their roommate requests which was supplied with the registration form. If you did not select roommates on your registration form, we will place you in an appropriate cabin.

Each cabin has a private bathroom. The cabins come fully equipped with sheets and towels. There are no TV's or telephones in the cabins. There is a camp store at Waldemar if you need any toiletries or other minor incidentals.

Getting to Waldemar

For those attendees flying, you may fly into either the San Antonio airport or the Austin airport. San Antonio is about 1.25 hours from Waldemar, Austin is a bit further. You will need to make your own arrangements for transportation from the airport to the Workshop Site.

Driving directions can be found on the Waldemar Website: ( http://www.waldemar.com/directions.html) As you arrive, look for the stone entrance sign to Waldemar.

Note: do not make a mistake at step number 5 of the directions (5. At Hunt turn right on FM 1340 and go about 4 1/2 miles to the Waldemar gate.). An error here can cost you 1 hour in drive time before you have realized the mistake.

When you Fist Arrive

Please try not to arrive at Waldemar before 2PM on Sunday, October 15. (There is another group using Waldemar on this weekend.) After 2PM, we have full use of the facility.

If you have prepaid for your registration and rooms, please first come to the Dining Hall for your registration packet and room assignments. Dinner will be served from 6-8PM on Sunday evening. If you are going to arrive after 8PM, please make arrangements to eat before arriving at Waldemar. There is no official program for Sunday evening, just a good opportunity to meet old and new friends.

Clothing and Weather

The weather in the Texas Hill Country during mid October should be wonderful. The typical afternoon temperature is in the 80's. The evening temperatures should be in the low 70's. However, it is possible for the weather to vary considerably from these mild conditions. So some minor precautions should be taken.

You should plan on dressing casually throughout your stay at Waldemar. Rubber soled shoes are idea. There are plenty of outdoor activities, so do bring walking or hiking shoes.

Food

All of your meals will be supplied by Waldemar and are part of your registration fee. The food should be fantastic. Note: these meals are only available during the scheduled dining times. Food service outside of these times is not available and Waldmar's camp store does not sell any food items.
